This reduces friction and improves efficiency when compared to a belt-drive fan. Direct-drive fans also have fewer moving parts and typically require less maintenance than belt-drive fans. Fans intended for use with heavy grease feature steel propellers and housings which are easier to clean and are less reactive to cleaning chemicals.
